Mission and Purpose

Established in 1972, the Erie Society for Genealogical Research (ESGR) is a 100% volunteer organization.  We are an independent organization affiliated with the Erie County Historical Society. We are both located at the Hagen History Center museum campus in Erie, PA .

Our Membership:  
-  Includes members with all levels of genealogy knowledge. 

Our Mission:
The objectives of our Society are to compile, study, and exchange information of  a genealogical and historical nature, and to preserve and perpetuate the genealogical and historical heritage of Erie County and the surrounding area by:
  • Nurturing and fostering an interest in genealogy by providing education, information and inspiration to individuals pursuing genealogical and historical research;
  • Instituting projects which will preserve the historical records and genealogical resources of the Erie County area; and
  • Giving real & practical assistance to the Erie County Historical Society’s and the Erie Public Library’s history and genealogy efforts.
